On the Ferry

I am sitting in the writing room aboard the Taku somewhere north of Petersburg, AK.  I am writing this in a word processor, as the internet does not exist in the middle of the inland passage.  We boarded the Taku an hour late last night, but have made up the time.  The trip is wonderful.  We have seen several whales, the earth is beautiful.  At one point the passage is only two hundred yards wide.  We have enjoyed visiting with the passengers, especially a couple for England and a group from New Zealand.
Last night we had a cabin.  A two berth outside cabin.  That means a set of bunk beds, I got the top, a small bath room and a shelf to but things on.  Spartan is a good word.  But the beds were good, even if small. Mary slept well, I did except for the two hours I was up at Ketchikan.  I really wanted to see this village that I have heard about all my life, well since I was seven.  Of course it was night and all I saw was the docks and the lights of the city.
Today we gave up our cabin, we will leave the ship at 1 am and show no need for the cabin and there are several people sleeping on the floor, that want a cabin and will be spending the entire night on board.  So we gave it up and get a very small refund, but know that someone will get a nights sleep.  It is real quiet here right now.  The sun is shining through light clouds.  Everyone is just reading, writing, sleeping, or looking out the windows.  It is cool outside. The ship is moving fast enough to make the wind cold.  The scenery is still beautiful, but we have seen it for last 9 hours.  Beautiful green mountains on both sides of the boat.  We will be stopping in Kake in an hour or so.  Then on to Sitka.
So long for now.

I am so glad you are having a wonderful trip, and I am sorry that you couldn't get off the ferry at Ketchikan. Van and I really like the town when we visited it on our Alaska trip. Of course, we WERE on a cruise ship, so not as adventurous as the ferry.
Love you. C.

Hello, I found your blog when doing a search for Banff, and I am so fascinated with your trip. I am truly living it. It is so nice to read that you are having a great time, and seen all those beautiful places.

Please keep writing!

Lots of luck, and my best wishes for more of a great vacation ahead.
